The phrase "best laid plans of mice and men" has come to be a bit of a cliche that basically means no matter how much you plan, there's always a chance for something to go wrong. In the book, Lenny and George make all those plans about buying a farm and "living off the fat of the land," but in the end it all goes south. It makes sense too, i accedently found out what happens before the end. whoops. First to post!!!!
Steinbeck originally titled it Something That Happened, however he changed the title after reading Robert Burns' poem, To a Mouse That poem tells of the regret the narrator feels for having destroyed the home of a mouse while plowing his field. In essence, it suggests that no plan is fool-proof and no one can be completely prepared for the future.

i think that even though they have all these good plans now, that lennie since hes not all there and has already caused so many problems that hes still going to be a problem and get into alot of trouble..and ruin all of georges plans
The book was originally called "Something That Happened". But Steinbeck then read a poem by Robert Burn titled "To a Mouse". The poem weaves a tail of the regret he feels for pulverizing the mouse's home while working on his field. The poem tells us that nothing is gaurenteed to go as planned. You can never be prepared for every obsticle you'll face.
In the first chapter, George and Lenny talk about all their plans for their life together. They are optimistic that everything will work out wonderfully in the end. They will own land and have money and own dogs and rabbits so Lenny won't kill them because of their miniscule size in comparision to his hand. The title is basicially foreshadowing. We know that the title is based on a poem of how there will always be the chance of misfortune. Something is likely to go askew. So I'm leaning towards Jerimiah's prediction.

This is a novel by the nobel prize winning author John Steinbeck. The title of the book has been taken from a poem by Robert Burns called ” To the mouse” from the lines..”The best-laid plans of mice and men aft gang agly.”
The website that i researched the title on said that "of mice and men" was originally called "something that happened". But after reading Robert Burns' Poem "To a mouse", he decided to change it.And whoops. Found out what happened at the end too like jerimiah. :D
I also predict that in the end of the story, (without reading what i had saw) is that lennie and george will end up getting their farm to live on, and live old,great lives.

Steinback in his book of Mice and Men, is trying to say that you may plan something, but it wont always go as you hope for, but you need to be ready for anything. And at first, he didn't plan to name his book "Of Mice and Men", and instead wanted it to be "Something that Happened" but found a poem that he was inspired by, and could relate to.

I believe that the boys are going to get into some trouble at the ranch with Curly and his wife... Also, I think George is going to get Lennie one of Slim's puppies and I think they are going to go gold mine after they get enough money from the ranch.

I predict that george and lennie will get into lots of trouble with that short mean guy because lennie is bound to say something stupid that will get them into trouble. And it will just be about how they have to once again move to a different town.
I definatly predict that Lennie or George get in a serious fight with Curly the bosses son. I also think that George will have to somehow make the decision to kill Lennie and put him out of his misery or keep him alive.
i THINK GEORGE and Lennie will be run out of town again and start again somewhere else because Lennie will scare someone with the mouse or something else stupid.
i think that later on in the story that Lenny will get jumped by The bosses son and be close to dead, but not. then ithink that it will be reported and The bosses son will be in trouble, but at that time they will find out why Goerge and Lenny left Weed, and that Goerge lied about being Lennys cousin and why he takes care of him(because his aunt "died").
I predict that Curley's wife will notice that lennie was noticing her and she has an affair with him. i also think that when Curley finds out about them, he will try to kill Lennie and then when Lennie goes down to the river like George told him to, Curley will follow him. i think that curley will hold Lennie hostage and get out all of the information about Lennie and George's past.

I'm thinkin' that thanks to Lennies love of the "soft touch", something pretty bad's gonna happen to the two men.
I think Candy is going to make Lennie and George turn against each other so that he can have the house to hmself.

I had read this book with my dad along time ago and had seen the movie and it is still a great book to read. This book is great because when i read it i can just picture Lenny and George walking down the road in to a sun set... ( i know... that was cheesy) but seriously. My favorite part in the book is when George did what he had to and shot Lenny while telling him to look the other way like he was looking at the land they wanted that event was foreshadowed by candy wishing that he had shot his dog himself. When Curly's wife was in the barn and stumbled opon Lenny with his dead pup she did her whole TART act and that made Lenny talk to her and just as George had said it got him in a whole lot of trouble. She found out that he liked soft things and she let hin touch her hair and he was touching it to hard and she freaked and that made lenny freak so things got out of hand and he shook her and her neak broke. OH and by the way I almost forgot but when Lenny got in trouble he ran to the special place that George told him to and hid in the brush,that is where the event that happens at the end comes in.
